Rise of the Tomb Raider Hits Steam Next Month

Get ready to turn the hair physics up to max.

Rise of the Tomb Raider began as a timed exclusive for Xbox One, with only vague details on how long that exclusivity would be. It turns out that time period was a short two months, as the game will be released on Steam in January 2016.

The official Steam page for Rise of the Tomb Raider now lists a release date of January 2016. The page offers no further details on the system specifications it will require, but this is a clear sign that the game will be available on Steam very soon.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics haven’t commented on this yet. However, two months is a very short time to keep the game exclusive to Microsoft platforms. There are rumors that the game didn’t sell well because it was released on the same day as Fallout 4, but these cannot be confirmed without official sales numbers. Low sales would be a solid reason to shorten an exclusivity contract.

Square Enix has not changed their statement on the PlayStation 4 port, which is still scheduled for late 2016. Will you pick up Rise of the Tomb Raider on Steam next month? Let us know in the comments.
