Fallout 76
Bethesda’s taking a bit of a risk with Fallout 76. In a series synonymous with single-player exploration, the developer and publisher are allowing players to step out of Vault 76 and rebuild civilization immediately after the bombs dropped with other players. That’s right, this is the very first foray into a shared world Fallout experience. However, this time, it’s you and other players who are going about establishing civilization, rather than being a latecomer to the party.
That means that crafting is a pretty huge part of the experience. With no NPCs to simply go and buy weapons from, you’ll be tasked with crafting your own stuff, finding recipes, and using your CAMP to carve out your own little home from home out in the West Virginia wasteland.
In addition, there are Challenges to earn Atoms which can be used to purchase cosmetic items and additional bits for your CAMP, as well as Events which task players with working together in order to complete objectives and earn rewards. Oh, and there’s also the promise that Mothman, the Snallygaster, the Wendigo, and plenty more will make an appearance in the game.
Many of the things fans love about the series can still be found in Fallout 76. Exploring out in the wilderness feels great, there are plenty of hidden secrets to find, and the map is pretty massive. We’re cautiously optimistic that Bethesda can deliver the goods, though be warned that the multiplayer focus might not be for everyone.
Fallout 76 is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC on Nov. 14.
