There will be times when you find yourself well short of the required amount of citizens to level-up your kingdom and progress the game’s main narrative, and that means grinding side quests for new citizens. In the process, it’s tempting to fast-forward each story for the inevitable reward. The thing is, Ni No Kuni 2 is full of charming stories and characters, and skipping them to reap the reward is a real shame.
Instead, there’s a much easier and faster way to recruit new citizens, and if you’ve followed the advice we issued in the previous two segments, it should be a breeze. At each town, there will be a man holding a sign (it’s in the shape of a strange animal face on the minimap). This is the taskmaster, and he’s a representative of Swift Solutions. These guys have almost endless errands for you to complete, and each rewards you with Tokens of Gratitude. These can then be exchanged for citizens that the taskmaster will scout. The costs vary depending on their skills, but importantly, there’s no story to fast-forward – you’ll simply go to the location and recruit the citizens. What’s more, you’ll likely find that you’ll already have much of what the taskmaster is after in your stock already, assuming you’re making sure to pick up and farm resources diligently.
