Now that Pokemon GO is out in the wild, many wannabe Pokemon Trainers have already ventured out to catch their first Pokemon. You may have noticed that in your Pokemon’s details page, there are XS and/or XL next to the height and weight. This is what they mean and what they can affect.
In truth, there’s nothing particularly special about having a Pokemon with either an XS or XL next to their height or weight. XS merely states that that Pokemon’s weight or height is extra small in comparison to the average specimen of that Pokemon. XL is, as you may have guessed, extra large for the same thing.
It would seem, though it is not always the case, that a Pokemon with XL for height or weight tends to have a higher CP. I mean, it kinda makes sense, a huge Weedle will be more powerful than a tiny one. This remains untrue, however, as other users have noted that their XS Pokemon have had better stats than some XL Pokemon.
In all likelihood, it’s just a fun little feature that’s been added into the game to spice things up a bit. Where we do know that this will apply, however, are the medals in Pokemon GO. If you tap on your little character avatar in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, you’ll bring up your ‘profile’ screen. Here, you should see a bunch of ‘?’ with names just below them. These are medals which you will unlock by completing certain criteria. One of these that has been spotted is ‘Youngster’ which requires you to catch a certain number of Rattata that weigh no more than 1 kg. Another, ‘Fisherman’, tasks you with catching Magikarp no bigger than 1 kg.
It’s a neat little way of getting you to catch more than one of the same Pokemon and the rewards are worth it too. For more guides, tips, and tricks, keep it locked to Twinfinite.
