How to Set Screens Effectively in NBA 2k18
A well-timed screen can open up a number of options offensively by creating space for ball handlers and separating a defender from a good shooter. Similarly, setting good screens in NBA 2k18 can help raise your MyPlayer grade and help create easy buckets.
To set screens in NBA 2k18, hold down Circle/B when near a defender, and the AI-controlled ball handler will choose whether or not to run around the screen. Setting screens is step one, deciding what to do after is where open shots are created. When setting an on-ball screen, you have multiple options.
First, you can slip the screen. If your defender overplays the screen or attempts to hedge the ball handler, this will serve as your best option. Before you make contact with the on-ball defender, release the screen button and run towards the basket. With two defenders now attempting to play the ball, you should have a wide open lane to the hoop. Press A to call for the ball, and finish the play at the basket.
Second, you can run a pick and roll. After making contact with the on-ball defender, read how the defense reacts. If both defenders stay with the ball, you should have a clear path to the basket. If a smaller man switches to defend you, either take it to the hole or take advantage of the mismatch in the post.
Third, depending on your player’s ability to shoot, you can run a pick and pop. After making contact with the on-ball defender, look for an open spot on the floor to take the quick jumper.
Off-ball screens can effectively get shooters open and allow slashers to have a clear run to the basket. In the same way that you set an on-ball, hold Circle/B next to a defender who is guarding another offensive player. The off-ball player will then decide whether to utilize the screen or not.
