While this doesn’t really have any bearing on Mass Effect: Andromeda’s single-player campaign, it plays a big part in the multiplayer segment. By default, all of your equipped abilities have a 100% cooldown period. However, as you progress through the waves of enemies and unlock even more weapons and gear for your character, your weight will go up. The more equipment your character is carrying, the heavier he or she will be, and this will have a negative impact on the cooldown periods for your abilities.

If you don’t likely relying on using abilities to push your enemies back (though you really should consider using them more, if that’s the case), this won’t be a huge issue for you. However, abilities can get you out of sticky situations, and you don’t want to be caught surrounded by enemies with no ammo, and no way of escaping quickly. Don’t equip more gear than you have to, and you’ll be fine.
