Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Guide: How to Play as Rem

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Don’t let the coughing, feeble-looking girl with asthma fool you. Rem is one of the most powerful cadets you’ll have access to on the roster and you’d be remiss to neglect her. She’s kind, respectable, and she also happens to be the most gifted mage in your party. She’s got pretty good affinity with the magic elements and her physical damage output isn’t too shabby either. If you spend enough time strengthening Rem, you’ll soon find that she’s indispensable to your squad.

Rem happens to have the largest MP pool amongst the Class Zero cadets but that doesn’t mean it’s a non-exhaustive resource. Manalchemy is the ability that you should prioritize when starting out with Rem. This ability allows her to restore MP to herself and her allies at the cost of some AG. Couple this with a magic spell like Thundaga SHG and Rem will be able to start taking out those mechs like a freaking beast.

Another possible magic build for Rem is to purchase the Twinspell ability so that she can wield two magic spells at once. This would provide her with some magical variety should you happen to face multiple types of magical foes. However, I’d suggest saving that second command slot for another ability that would prove far more useful to you.

Phoenix Downs are rather hard to come by in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. When a party member dies, you usually have no choice but to swap them out for a reserve character. However, if you purchase the Undying Wish ability, Rem will be able to cast Reraise on your squad and the effect will last a short while. Though it’ll still add to your casualty count on your mission report, Undying Wish could potentially get you out of a lot of sticky situations. For instance, summoning an Eidolon requires you to sacrifice one of your cadets. However, Undying Wish will bring that member right back to life after the sacrifice. Needless to say, this is one of the most important abilities you’ll need to get for Rem.

Alternatively, you can also play Rem as a melee attacker if you wish. She carries double daggers and her combos are fast and furious. You’ll want to be careful with her though; as a close ranged fighter, there’s also the danger of her getting quickly overwhelmed by enemies. Her HP isn’t very high and she could go down really fast if you’re not careful.

Instead, consider getting the Dagger Boomerang and Flying Daggers abilities for her. Dagger Boomerang allows her to fling her daggers at enemies from a distance. While Flying Daggers has a much shorter range than the former, it also packs a hell of a punch. A good strategy for using Rem as a semi long ranged fighter is to position her behind a Wall and have her fling her daggers from there.

With her decent speed, strength, and all-powerful magic spells, Rem is a fantastic well-rounded character that can take on any role in your squad. In terms of using her as a melee attacker, she’s also one of the easiest characters to control, given her swiftness in swinging those daggers around. As long as you keep her out of harm’s way, keep her MP up with Manalchemy, and make sure that your party stays alive with Undying Wish, Rem is pretty much the most broken character you’ll come across in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD.
