The World
Darksiders 3 will once again be going for an open-world approach… sort of. It’s described as an “open-ended, living, free-form game world in which Fury moves back and forth between environments to uncover secrets while advancing the story.” By the sounds of it, it will most likely be open hub areas, which is right in line with the design of Darksiders II. Also, the mention of going back and forth to discover secrets makes it sound as if there will be some Metroidvania-style mechanics. In other words, your new abilities will most likely grant entry to previously inaccessible areas.
The art style of the environments is reminiscent of the previous games, too. It looks like it could fit into a comic book, and the post-apocalyptic design is part heavenly destruction and part a reclaiming by nature. It’s dark, yet beautiful.
It would appear that players won’t only traverse Earth, though. The story is set to take players from the “heights of heaven to the depths of hell.” That is sure to be interesting, especially if the developers can really bring some unique flavor to each of the areas.
