How to Adopt a Pet in The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs

Recommended Videos

The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs finally brings the pets that simmers have wanted to add to their households for awhile. Gone are the pet shops that you used to be able to go to in previous iterations of this expansion, though. Now, you’re going to need to adopt your pet if you want it to join your household. And, just in case you don’t know this already, no you cannot directly control your pet. Think The Sims 2.

In order to adopt a pet, click on your sim’s phone or computer. If you’re on your sim’s computer, hit Household and go to Adopt. There, you will get the option to get either a cat or dog. If you’re using your sim’s phone, click the Household/Career tab (the house icon), then select Hire a Service. When your sim finishes calling, select either Adopt Cat or Adopt Dog.

You’ll then have options to choose from, and every day they reset to include more dogs or cats. There will be a selection of breeds and ages for you to take home with you. Once you select one (or multiple), an adoption agent will come to your house with the animal. You can interact with them during this time to see if they’re a good fit for you, and it’s your chance to find out what traits they have prior to adopting them. If you’re ready to seal the deal, select the animal as your sim and choose the “Adopt” option. It will cost 200 simoleons, and you’ll have a new furry friend.
