Littlewitch Romanesque is not your average visual novel. It’s deep, complex, and unforgiving. While possible to play through blindly, keeping these tips in mind will help you maximize your enjoyment and prevent frustration.
Save Often
Littlewitch Romanesque is not your standard visual novel. This seems trite to mention, but crucial to remember. As it requires more interaction from the player than other titles, losing hard-earned progress can be as devastating as if it were hours of play on an old JRPG.
Lessons and accrued spirit are the biggest losses, aside from the usual. It can take time to amass such things Littlewitch Romanesque doesn’t have an autosave feature, so keep yourself protected! Abuse saves!
Learn the Lesson Dice Game
The Lessons are the backbone of Littlewitch Romanesque. There is literally nothing more important than collecting spirit. Without spirit, Kaya and Aria can’t learn spells. No spells means no quests. Nothing in Littlewitch Romanesque can be completed without the spirit required to learn spells.
And the spirit required can be pretty steep for the mid and endgame spells. Resorting to auto-casting spells isn’t necessarily bad, but casting the spells using the dice is a much more efficient way to gather spirit. Practice hard and learn the tricks to bumping dice correctly.
Part of the problem lies in having a minimum of six dice rolling around, and keeping track of everything can be difficult. Keep this rule of thumb in mind: if you see a face of a die and it’s not the face-up side, clicking it will make it the face-up side.
Manage Quests Efficiently
There are two major issues with quests. One is that most have time requirements. The other is that the looming annual exams will necessitate certain spells (unless you’re going for a failure).
Balancing these two isn’t too hard, but don’t let it fall to the wayside. Complete quests that expire early sooner, and leave the ones that have half a year to cook for a bit. Learning new spells and passing the exams should take priority.
Learn as Many Spells as Possible
After Lesson requirements are fulfilled, spells are the next most important aspect of Littlewitch Romanesque. The spell trees start small at first, but they will not stay small. Continuing to learn spells will continue to open up quests and keep Kaya and Aria prepared for unknown exam requirements.
Exam Requirements are Random
Preparing for the exams before they are announced is difficult. What’s more, the exam requirements are random. There’s no telling at all what spells will be required until the quest appears. Fortunately, this isn’t too much of a curveball if Aria and Kaya have been keeping up with their quests. They’ll already have a solid repertoire of spells; they might not even have to scramble.
But then again, they might. Quest management helps here; don’t get caught unprepared.
Tempero Ignis is Your Best Friend
Seriously, the spell grants +5 spirit earned on every dice roll. Learn the spell early, cast it as soon as lessons start. Better yet, learn how to guide the dice to cast it and watch your spirit rise.
Bonus tip: Cast Tempero Ignis and then get the dice to roll the magic symbol that gives +1 spirit to each category… that becomes so much more.
Use the Alternate Teachers and Classrooms
This one really only applies if Kaya and Aria need a spell ASAP. The other teachers and rooms are great for influencing the dice to fall the way you need them, especially if the Lesson dice game is still a challenge. Take advantage of them.
