In the post-apocalyptic open-world of ELEX, you will occasionally run into locked chests and boxes that require a password before you can open them up and claim the loot from within. Interacting with one of these chests will initiate a mini-game where you have to guess a password. Thankfully, there are a few ways to make things a little easier. Here’s what you need to know to hack and bypass passwords in ELEX.
First off, whenever you guess the four-digit password, make a note of the color codes that show up. A green number means the number is correct and is in the right position, a yellow number means the number is correct but the position is wrong, and a red number means the guess is completely wrong. Before you can start hacking, though, first you need to unlock the Hack skill in the game. This is a base ability that allows you to interact with locked boxes. As you level it up, you’ll be able to start hacking into boxes with more complicated passwords as well.
There are other abilities that can make your life easier, such as the Hold Your Horses and Professional Hacker abilities. These will increase the amount of time you have to guess a password, and also increase the number of tries you get when you hack. Hacking seems to be completely reliant on luck in ELEX, so we recommending getting these skills to have a higher chance of actually breaking in.
