Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked – What’s New? Everything You Need to Know

Gameplay

Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked is the new DLC expansion for the original Don’t Starve that has survivors dealing with a much more “abandoned on a tropical island” scenario. As soon as you start the game and enable the Shipwrecked option, your randomly generated world will be filled with oceans, beaches, sea creatures, new items, and more. You won’t be walking everywhere and can take to the deep blue to discover all new locations as well as uncover the secrets that lie beneath. Needless to say, this DLC is a pretty hefty expansion that overhauls the core gameplay and freshens it up with some water.

Besides that, there are also two significant additions to gameplay. Poison is now very much so a thing as certain creatures will be venomous. If you’re poisoned, you’ll need some anti-venom or else you’ll be losing health and sanity for three days. Wetness is much more significant now, as well. It was introduced in Reign of Giants, but it wasn’t as prevalent as it is in this latest sea-faring DLC. Though being wet doesn’t affect the player’s health, it does make certain items slipper, lowering their effectiveness or spoiling food.

Seasons and Biomes

In Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked, the regular seasons will get replaced by four all new ones that each bring their own characteristics and weather patterns into the mix.

• Mild Season – The starter season for playthroughs. Nothing fancy happens here. Rainy towards the end of it.
• Hurricane Season – Strong winds, lightning, and rain will plague the world during this season.
• Monsoon Season – Heavy rain floods different land areas.
• Dry Season – Overheating occurs and volcanoes can start to erupt.

It wouldn’t be much of a new world to explore if there weren’t some new biomes included in the game, too.

• Walani – Brings a surfboard at the start of the game. Dries faster, but gets hungry faster, too.
• Warly – Starts with a portable crock pot. May get hungry fast but also has a huge hunger meter.
• Wilbur – Runs when moving for a period of time. Gains sanity from bananas and drops manure (can be used as a weapon) once every few days.
• Woodlegs – Finds hidden treasure easily. Can craft a powerful pirate ship right from the start.

To fill up the all-new world are of course mobs. These creatures are either hostile or friendly, and some may even be venomous. Majority can be found within the water, but that’s not to say that there aren’t a lot of new land mobs to inhabit different islands.
