Obi-Wan Kenobi May Be Back on the Silver Screen After Star Wars Episode IX

Just as long as it's not aggressive negotiations.

The news many Star Wars fans have been waiting for is closer now than ever to becoming a reality. Lucasfilms is officially in talks with director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) to head the spin-off that would follow Obi-Wan Kenobi more closely than any of the previous Star Wars titles.

In an article by The Hollywood Reporter, it is said that although the talks are underway to bring Daldry onto a stand alone Kenobi-themed film, the project is in the earliest stages of pre-production, with not even a script written up or planned. However, if the talks with Daldry are a success and he is assigned to the director chair, he would be working on the script for the anthology with members of Lucasfilms.

It is also rumored, or more so hoped, that Ewan McGregor will once again fill the role of the beloved Jedi who was such a major part in the prequels and with guiding Luke in the early days of his journey. McGregor has spoken on his feelings about reprising the role, saying he would be happy to do so if the project did happen. But, with no script, it isn’t confirmed what age Obi-Wan will be or whether this will be post-Anakan or pre-Jedi. Either way, fans of the franchise may rest a little easier knowing the anthology is being considered and their outcry for more screen time to be given to the Jedi Knight didn’t fall on deaf ears.
