Coming as a surprise to nobody, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has had a huge opening weekend at the worldwide box-office.

Rogue One has taken an estimated $290 million worldwide, making it the second biggest debut December weekend. As a whole, the weekend is the fourth biggest of all-time at theaters with Will Smith’s Collateral Beauty being released and La La Land performing strongly.

The Star Wars spin-off is only the second film that has released in December to take over $100 million in its first weekend, only falling short of last year The Force Awakens. It is estimated that Rogue One took $155 million domestically from 4,157 theaters during the three day weekend.

Since it is unlikely to have the staying power of The Force Awakens, it’ll be interesting to see how Rogue One performs going into the new year, especially with Assassin’s Creed opening next week.
