Get Back Into the Flow
A lot of players have taken a short break from Destiny. It’s not because the game is bad in any way, but that they were waiting on something new to hit the universe for them to dive back into and dominate. This is especially true of players who focused more on the PvE side of things.
A good idea is to use the coming weeks to get back into the flow of the game. If you’ve found yourself playing other shooters recently such as Black Ops III or the recent Battlefield 1 Beta, then Destiny may feel a bit weird to you. The floaty jumping, the different weapon dynamics, the need to manage your perks and abilities, and other features require a bit of nuance. Get back into your flow and you’ll be ready to show the new Fallen threat just how you became a legend in the first place.
Light Level
Right now the current Light Level cap is 335, and you’ll want to be as close to that as possible. The best approach to accomplish this is to start running through endgame content as well as PvP events which include the Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. This will grant you rewards with increasing light as you continue to run through them.
Prison of Elders is one that can be done relatively easy with a group of friends, and the raid can get you several pieces of powerful gear, though it requires six players rather than just three. Just keep running through different challenges to amass a collection of gear you can either swap to or infuse into your favorites. With just over two weeks until the release of Rise of Iron, you should have plenty of time to power up.
Moments of Triumph
As we move closer to Rise of Iron’s release, Destiny’s Year Two Moments of Triumph will start slipping just out of reach. This is thanks to the need to collect all of the Calcified Fragments which will require you to beat all of the weekly raid challenges, as well as all of the Tier 3 Court of Oryx bosses, which rotate weekly.
However, you should still try to achieve as many of the Moments of Triumph as possible. For starters, they’ll guide you through a lot of the best content that Destiny Year Two had to offer including the Hard Mode Raid, Challenge of the Elders, and the April content. Secondly, it’s a good way to see just what you may have missed in order to gain some really great rewards. Also, there are tiers, so you’ll get something for at least completing some of the challenges. These come in the form of Shaders and Emblems to customize your Guardian.
Save Up Those Strange Coins
Xur may have been a bit lackluster in recent weeks, but he will be present when the new Rise of Iron expansion releases with goodies in tow. It’s a strong possibility that he won’t show up right away with brand new exotics, but you can rest assured that he will have some soon enough. For that reason, you’ll want to save up some of those hard-earned strange coins so that you can outfit your favorite Guardian in some powerful gear.
You can earn coins in a variety of ways, including completing Strikes in the Strike Playlists, completing Nightfall, turning in Engrams, and as rewards in the Crucible. So go out there and start saving up.
Save Up Some Powerful Gear
The Infusion mechanic will be available in Destiny’s Rise of Iron expansion as well, allowing you to boost up the brand new Legendary and Exotic gear you’ll stumble across while playing. On top of that, weapons will automatically jump to the Light Level of whatever you infuse them with, making it much easier to obtain gear that is at max Light as long as you have some things you’re willing to get rid of.
With this in mind, you may want to hold onto any high-level duplicate weapons you may have. Do note that you’ll still need Exotic Shards to upgrade Exotic Gear, so you may also want to collect a few of those just to dismantle. Either way, you should definitely start creating a stockpile of armor and weapons that any Guardian would envy.
Don’t Forget to Preorder
Rise of Iron releases on the PS4 and Xbox One on Sept. 20. If you already have Destiny, you may want to pre-order the expansion so that you’re ready to play as soon as the content goes live. If you’ve yet to purchase Bungie’s latest release, a Complete Edition will release on the same day which includes the base game and all of the expansions including Rise of Iron. Pre-ordering will net you the Iron Gjallarhorn to kick things off with a bang.
Everyone’s favorite rocket launcher is finally coming back in a big way, so it’s not a bad idea to start things off with one waiting in your inventory. Let the wolves roar as you push back the Darkness once more.
As always, safe travels, Guardians.
