Who Is Nezarec in Destiny 2? Answered

Here's everything you need to know about who Nezarec is in Destiny 2.

The Witness is drawing ever closer in Destiny 2. This past year we learned the existence of not only The Witness himself but also his disciples. We first met Rhulk, the first disciple of The Witness, in the Vow of the Disciple Raid, then at the end of Season 17, we also learned that Calus has become a disciple as well. However, very recently in Season 18, another disciple of The Witness was revealed to us, Nezarec. So today, let’s discuss who is Nezarec in Destiny 2.

Nezarec’s Identity in Destiny 2 Explained

We’ve heard the name Nezarec a few times throughout the Destiny franchise. Examples would be the Exotic Helmet for Warlocks, Nezarec’s Sin, and then on the Vow of the Disciple Glaive, Nezarec’s whisper. Until now, we’ve only had hints or theories about what Nezarec was or could be. However, in Season 18, otherwise known as Season of Plunder, it was revealed in a cutscene that Nezarec was once a disciple of none other than The Witness. Although, we discover only what remained of him.

Destiny 2 Nezarec

Nezarec’s corpse was discovered aboard the Lunar Pyramid by the Eliksni after their arrival in the Sol System. The Eliskni determined that Nezarec’s body was a source of great power, and divided the corpse into pieces that they then distributed amongst themselves as talismans. These pieces were later stored within relics and hidden away across the galaxy.

It is not known how Nezarec died, nor what will happen with the relics. For the past six weeks, players have been collecting these hidden relics throughout the galaxy. It is speculated there will be ten relics in total, and it remains to be seen what happens when they gather once more.

However, a daunting lore piece might have hinted at the future of Nezarec within the story. Nezarec is described in a pre-Golden Age text titled “Of Hated Nezarec”, in which he is described as “the final god of pain”. Unfortunately, it also states that he will one day rise again. Perhaps this implies that once all the relics have been collected later this Season, we could potentially see yet another disciple of The Witness rise up once more. For now it remains to be pure speculation.
