Wargroove Beginner Tips
Prioritize Capturing Buildings First
Most battles in Wargroove start out exactly the same way: capture buildings, consolidate your resources, then start moving your units forward to engage the enemy in battle. The first step is the most important: capture all nearby buildings.
Buildings in Wargroove serve two purposes: providing you with a steady stream of gold every turn, and healing your units when necessary. Gold is extremely important, as you’ll need it to buy more units when your allies fall or use it to heal injured units when the need arises.
When your units are adjacent to a building you’ve captured, you can also choose the Reinforce option to heal them up at the cost of structure health. Whenever you capture a building, its health will be half of whatever the current health is of the unit that captured it, but it’ll also regenerate a bit of health every turn.
If you capture them early, they’ll likely be at full health by the time you need to use it for healing, so your buildings won’t be left completely defenseless when that happens and there are enemies nearby.
Similarly, when you’re near enemy buildings, it can be advantageous to attack and capture them as well. This will cut off the regular income for your enemy while generating even more gold for you at the same time.
You’ll want to bring trebuchets and golems for this though, as attempting to capture an enemy building with regular units can be quite dangerous.

Use Your Groove Power Wisely
Every commander in Wargroove comes with a unique groove power, and using it properly can easily turn the tides of battle in your favor. Whenever you get to take control of a new commander, be sure to read up on their groove power first before doing anything else.
Most commanders have very defensive powers, such as Mercia’s Healing Aura and Emeric’s defensive shield. Others have offensive powers, such as Valder’s ability to immediately summon a base infantry unit and use it in the same turn. For the defensive commanders, we definitely recommend being more conservative with your groove powers, as they can come in extremely handy during sticky situations.
For instance, if your units are trapped and you have no way of getting to a building to heal, Mercia, Emeric, and Caesar have good powers that can potentially allow you to survive one more turn as you deploy more reinforcements.
The nice thing about Wargroove is that your groove power can be charged up relatively quickly as well. It’ll charge up naturally as the battle progresses, and you can make it go even quicker by having your commanders deliver killing blows to enemies.
Because your commanders will also automatically regain health every turn, it’s usually a good idea to put them on the frontlines to take out squishy enemies and charge your groove at the same time.

Save Money for Stronger Units
Once you’ve captured all the buildings you can get your hands on in Wargroove, you might be tempted to start throwing your money around. Try not to do that.
At the beginning of the battle, by all means, deploy a few of the cheaper units just so you can get more allies on the field and start surrounding the enemy. However, make sure to have a stockpile of gold reserved for emergency healing.
In addition to that, you’ll also want to keep saving up money for the later turns in battle so you can deploy the stronger units.
Golems, in particular, are ridiculously powerful against pretty much everything except trebuchets. They also cost a whopping 1,200 gold each, so you’ll need to save up for a few turns before you can bring one of these guys in.
Golems will decimate most regular units with ease, and buildings don’t stand a chance against them. They also do decent damage to enemy commanders, making them a dangerous force to reckon with. On the flip side, if your opponent has a fair number of golems on their side, invest your money in trebuchets to take them down. Trebuchets also cost a lot of gold, so make sure to start saving early.

Check the Info Screens Regularly
Knowledge is the key to victory in practically every battle in Wargroove. When you’re first starting out in the game, we recommend reading the info screen for each unit and different terrain type to get a sense of what they do.
You can do this by pressing the B button on the Switch, or A button on Xbox One, while hovering over a unit or terrain tile. This will give you all the information you need about that particular unit, including their strengths and weaknesses, and the requirements for them to deliver critical hits.
Pikemen will always crit if they’re adjacent to each other, while battle pups will crit if their target is surrounded by another dog.
Terrain knowledge is important as well, as they can severely affect your movement speed. Forest and mountain tiles will definitely impede your mobility, but they’ll also give you a significant increase in defense. On the other hand, water tiles give you a defense penalty. Never, under any circumstances, leave your units on water tiles.
