It's not over once the credits roll.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Horizon Zero Dawn is quite the experience, but just because you beat it doesn’t mean that’s where the fun has to end. Here are things you can do after beating the game. This is all post game (or endgame) content that you’ll be able to embark upon after you beat the game and watch the ending.

Collectible Hunting

When Horizon Zero Dawn’s story is over and done with, you may be wondering what else there is to do in the game so you can keep on exploring this world. Don’t worry, we’ve highlighted five things you should do in the game once the credits have rolled.

There are a ton of collectibles scattered around Horizon Zero Dawn’s world that will have you exploring its farthest corners. While datapoints will help you to flesh out the lore and provide additional context to what’s been going on in the main story, there’s also Banuk Figures, Metal Flowers, Vantage Points, and Ancient Vessels for you to find.

While the idea of collectibles may not initially entice you to keep on playing, Horizon Zero Dawn’s collectibles are actually incredibly interesting. Banuk Figures tell a tragic tale through the glyphs that accompany them, Metal Flowers have cryptic poems, and Vantage Points give you a quick glimpse into the world of the Old Ones. Plus, if you love trophies, you’ll get a one for getting all of these collectibles. What other reason do you need?

Clear the Remaining Quests

There’s a good chance that you’ll reach the end of Horizon Zero Dawn’s story before you’ve cleared all of the errands and side quests that the game has to offer. While Aloy may have saved the day (for now), that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t help the NPCs with their more menial issues and earn that sweet, sweet XP.

Not only will clearing these help you reach the level 50 cap, but they’re also just a great reason to jump back into Horizon Zero Dawn’s combat once more. Don’t forget that you’ve also got the Cauldrons, Tallnecks, and Corrupted Zones that you can clear if you haven’t gotten these already.

Play Around in Photo Mode

It’s no secret that Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most stunning games to have released on any console to date. You’ll often find yourself overlooking stunning vistas, admiring the detail on machines as they try to destroy you, or finding tiny details that you just can’t believe Guerrilla Games slipped into Horizon Zero Dawn that most players may never actually notice.

All of this makes for a visual experience that is incredibly easy to just sit and stare at for hours. That’s where you’ll want to make good use of the game’s photo mode. You can change the time of day, aperture, add in a filter, change field of view and much, much more. Toying around with the game’s photo mode is just as much fun as playing the game itself, and the end results can be incredibly satisfying. Even if you don’t have an in-depth knowledge of cameras and their settings, you’ll still be able to create some impressive images for you to share with your friends.

The Ancient Armory

While The Ancient Armory is another quest that you can find before you finish Horizon Zero Dawn’s main story, you won’t be able to finish it until you’ve at least played a good chunk of the story. Therefore, chances are that you may have left this quest by the wayside until you’ve finished the final boss fight and been loaded back into the world.

For those unaware, The Ancient Armory quest requires players to find a hidden underground Old Ones armory and then find Power Cells to unlock and gain access to the awesome outfit that lies within. Wearing the outfit essentially turns you invincible until it starts flashing red. But avoid damage for a few seconds and it’ll recharge, allowing Aloy to stay out of harm once more.

If you want to embark on this adventure, then be sure to check out our quest walkthrough to help you find all five Power Cells littered around the world. Some of these can be pretty tricky to find, as is the armory itself, but with the help of our walkthrough, you’ll have the most powerful outfit in Horizon Zero Dawn in no time.

Hone Your Hunting Skills

Horizon Zero Dawn’s most satisfying gameplay element is hunting down the machines and using the vast wealth of weapons to help you take them down in fun and creative ways. While you’ll definitely get your fair share of robot hunting in Horizon Zero Dawn’s story, you can never take down a Stormbird or Thunderjaw too many times.

The unpredictable nature of the world makes things even more interesting, too. Just the other night, a fellow Twinfinite staff member found himself up against two Thunderjaws and took them down in a completely different way to how I normally would. Through exploration and a bit of creativity, you can exploit these machines in new and different ways. Plus, your higher level will make this a slightly fairer battle than they were when you made your way through the story.

Also, don’t forget that Horizon Zero Dawn’s Hunting Grounds are well worth checking out if you want to see just how intuitive and out there you can get with the game’s combat. Plus, if you get all Blazing Suns in all of the Hunting Ground challenges, you can receive a special and powerful weapon from the Hunter’s Lodge.

Finally, though, if you want to truly hone your hunting skills in Horizon Zero Dawn, you can start the game all over again on the Very Hard difficulty. Machines will be able to take and deal more damage, so you’ll really need to up your game if you’re going to make it through to the end.
