How to Get Hay in Stardew Valley

In Stardew Valley, Hay is crucial in feeding your livestock (like chickens) when it’s raining out and you can’t just let them graze on grass. But where do you get it from, exactly? Well, for one, you can buy it from Marnie’s Farm for 50g a pop. This can get pretty expensive if you’re not yet an established farmer, so it’s not really recommended to start and is more of a crunch time tactic.

The cheaper in the long run alternative that you’ll want to do is get yourself a silo. Check out our guide on how to build one of those if you’re not aware how to. With the silo, you’ll be able to cut down grass with your scythe and automatically have hay transferred over. It’s as simple as that. Find patches of grass, slice them up, and have hay go right to your farm’s silo. Once you have that, your coop or barn will have a contraption that automatically will dispense you hay when you interact with it.

Hay should technically not be used all of the time as it can be expensive to do that, so be sure to peep at our guide on how to feed your livestock intelligently over here.
