Take the windy road through space!
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Star Fox Zero isn’t just one straightforward path through space. At a number of different points throughout the game, there are opportunities to branch out and take a different path to your final destination. However, these require you to meet certain criteria.

Star Fox Zero

The title of each of the following pages represents a hidden path or level in the game. By completing these, new paths or shortcuts will be unlocked for you. Some of these do require you to visit other planets and complete objectives there first. Don’t worry though, we’ve explained everything you need to do on which planets to unlock these paths. Here’s how to get every path in Star Fox Zero.

Zoness

In order to be able to take the path from Aquarosa to Zoness, you must have first completed the Sector Beta mission. This is necessary as it activates the portal on Corneria that we need to gain access to this path.

After exiting Corneria City, you should be able to see a large transport ship heading for the coast. Transform from the Arwing into the walker and step on the red switch to open the doors ahead of you.

Head through these doors and you’ll see an active portal that you can head on through to take on the Aquarosa boss fight.

Asteroid Field

In order to unlock the Asteroid Field stage, you’ll need to first complete Sector Beta, and then backtrack to Corneria and fight Aquarosa.

Once you’ve done this, head to Area 03. You’ll notice that Andrew from Star Wolf will show up, and also that the game has turned into a linear on-rails shooter for this brief stage.

When you’ve finished this short stage, you’ll automatically be taken to the Asteroid Field stage. This requires you to defend the Great Fox as it heads through the asteroid field. You’ll have to keep an eye on it and patrol its perimeter in order to complete the mission. Once you’ve finished this, a new route to Sector Beta is then unlocked. There’s a handy video here if you happen to get a little stuck or confused.

Great Fox

In order to unlock the Great Fox mission, you’ll need to have completed all of the main stages before completing the following sequence. Once you’ve completed all of the main stages, including the Fortuna stage, you’ll be notified that Star Wolf has been spotted in Sector Alpha. Make Fox and his team check it out and play through the stage, you should notice red laser fire then coming from your six.

Pigma from Star Wolf will appear and in order to get this mission, you’ll want to lock on to him with ZL. In doing so, Fox will leave the current mission and follow Pigma to a fight with Andrew and Pigma of Star Wolf. Defeat them both and you’ll be taken to the Great Fox and will play out a slightly different version of the Asteroid Field stage. The only difference here is that this stage features a different version of the Dodorah boss.

In order to defeat it, you’ll need to lure it in front of the Great Fox’s main gun and ensure it takes two hits from it. Once you’ve done this, you’ll unlock this handy shortcut to Sector Gamma.

Salvadora

In order to unlock this mission, you’ll need to have completed the Fichina mission first and have acquired the Gravmaster upgrade for your Arwing. When you’ve got this, head to Titania and fly up toward the portal in the background when Slippy makes some comment about Peppy’s signal. If you’re successful, a cutscene should play out with Fox and Peppy being teleported to space.

Once the cutscene is done, you’ll take control of Peppy and be tasked with taking down a huge Superdreadnought carrier. Make sure you avoid the cannon fire otherwise your health bar will definitely look a lot worse for wear. Take out all 14 of the Superdreadnought’s cannons and you’ll have unlocked new routes to Fortuna and Fichina.

Hunter

The final hidden path in Star Fox Zero also requires you to have completed all missions. You’ll also have to take down Wolf O’Donnell on the Fortuna planet. In order to unlock Fortuna, you’ll have to defeat Wolf before he takes down Peppy. Simply tail him and don’t let up until he goes down in order to save Peppy.

Once Peppy has been saved, you’ll then see that a path for Fortuna is now open on your map. Head over there and wait for Wolf to make an appearance. Just as you did with Pigma before, as soon as you spot red laser fire coming from your rear, hit the ZL button to lock on and enter the battle with Wolf.

This battle can be tough and will require you to use all of your skills you have picked up on your space adventure. Be careful of Wolf’s powerful attacks and be sure to use all evasive manoeuvres at your disposal to save your bacon. Once you’ve defeated Wolf, a new shortcut to Sector Omega will be unlocked.

And there you have it, all alternate paths in Star Fox Zero should now be unlocked. Got any tips or tricks for your fellow Star Fox Zero fans? Share them in the comments below.
