Among the many items you can find and use in Spelunky 2, Rope can quite literally be your lifeline to treasure, health and, most frequently, safety. It won’t do you much good if you don’t know how to use it though, which is why we’re here to walk you through how to use Rope in Spelunky 2.

How to Use Rope in Spelunky 2

Much like bombs, you use Rope in Spelunky 2 by pressing a specific button; that being the Triangle Button.

Whenever you’d like to toss a rope up above you, and you have at least one in your inventory, you can press the Triangle Button to let one loose. This will launch a line of the stuff directly above you, and after it hooks into the wall a rope will be sent down to you.

So long as you’re within reach of the end, you can then start climbing it by pressing Up on the D-Pad or Left Analogue Stick.

As for when the best times are to use Rope in Spelunky 2, it depends on the situation you’re in.

If you’re in a level with tons of treasures that will be inaccessible if you journey too far down, then tossing some rope along your path as you descend can allow you make sure you don’t miss out on any loot.

Likewise, if you’re hesitant about what might lie out of your field of view below you, then you can use rope to ease your way downward instead of dropping into danger.

However, it’s worth noting that the amount of Rope you have is limited. If you run out, it could leave you without a means to safely reach lower sections of levels, resulting in lost health that can end an otherwise promising run.

Read each situation you’re in carefully, and determine whether it’s worth using this limited resource or better to save it.
