Shin Megami Tensei V: How to Fuse Demons

Shin Megami Tensei V is the fifth mainline entry in Atlus’s turn-based JRPG series. Like the previous entries before it, this one is set in modern-day Tokyo as well, except the city as we know it has been turned into a desert wasteland as demons and angels go to war trying to wrestle control over it. Players take control of the Nahobino, who has the power to command demons in battle, and you’ll also have the ability to create new ones as you keep playing. Here’s how to fuse demons in Shin Megami Tensei V.

Demon fusion is a series staple in Shin Megami Tensei and the persona series, so it’s not at all surprising to see that it’s made a return in SMT V as well. The demon fusion system allows you to take two (or more) demons and fuse them together to create an entirely different demon altogether.

While most demons can be added to your party just by encountering them in the world and negotiating with them, it’s often better to get them through fusing. With enough learned miracles, fused demons can gain benefits such as extra levels, stats, and skills. In addition to that, if you’re fusing two demons that have already learned all their potential skills, you can pass on some of their most powerful ones to the newly fused demon.

To get started, you’ll first need to interact with a leyline fount, then choose the World of Shadows option. From here, choose the Fusion option and you’ll see a few different processes available to you.

Dyad Fusion is basically regular fusion, where you pick a demon in your party and see what combinations you can get with it. Reverse Dyad Fusion shows you every demon combination available in your party, while Special requires you to have at least three specific demons to fuse a more powerful one.

Once you’ve picked the demons you want to fuse, you can preview the stats and skills of the new demon that you’ll get, and also pick the skills you want it to inherit. Don’t forget to save your game before doing this, though, as there’s always a chance that the process could go awry, leaving you with a demon you didn’t want to get.

In addition to that, it’s also a good idea to register all your demons in the Compendium whenever they learn a new skill and level up. With enough Macca, you can resummon them so there’s never a fear of losing a demon for good.
