Save – Resident Evil 7

Like all previous entries in the series, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard can become pretty challenging thanks to the horror and tough encounters, so you’ll need a break from time to time as you play through Capcom’s latest survival horror experience. Thankfully, modern games offer up the ability to save your game so you don’t have to leave your console on or worry about repeating a terrifying part you’ve already gotten past. In Resident Evil 7, you save in a similar fashion to how you did so in previous games, though you don’t need any resource to do so.

Scattered around the horrific world are rooms that house tape recorders. These serve as this latest entry’s typewriters, allowing you to record to continue the game later. They aren’t found in every room, but once you do encounter one, it will be marked on your map as an “S.” You don’t need any cassette tapes or anything of that nature, nor are you limited in how many times you can actually save your progress, so make sure to save often so what you’ve done isn’t lost if you happen to turn off the console or have a run-in with a particularly nasty enemy.

It’s also worth noting that there is a solid checkpoint system for those playing the game on Easy or Normal. Resident Evil 7 will save automatically at major points to allow you to continue your progress immediately in case of an untimely death.

Saving is quite different when playing on the Madhouse difficulty, however. You’ll need tapes to use the recorders, and they aren’t unlimited. Without a tape, you can’t save your game. Also, there are no checkpoints. So use those tapes sparingly and focus on surviving.
