Who Betrayed the Gang in Red Dead Redemption 2
Spoiler Warning: This article is going to discuss a major spoiler for Red Dead Redemption 2, namely, who betrayed the gang. The game dangles a few possibilities in front of you throughout the game, but we’re going to give you the definitive answer without a doubt. If you’re here, you were probably looking for the answer anyway, but just in case you somehow accidentally found this article this is your chance to leave.
It wouldn’t be a Rockstar game if there wasn’t a heavy dose of betrayal, surprises and twists in the game’s story mode. If you’re here, you’re likely wandering who betrayed the gang in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The game starts off with the gang in a precarious position. They are on the run from the law after a robbery gone very wrong. They lose critical members of their gang, and the failure sets the stage for the beginning of tough times for Dutch and his crew.
It doesn’t really ever get any better for them as the game goes on, and just when you think things can’t get worse, it does.
At a certain point in the game though, it starts seeming a little too coincidental that the Pinkertons continue to stay right on their heels, even after the camp is moved around. Or as Alanis Morissette would say, a little too ironic.
Indeed, Arthur, Dutch, and other members of the gang start believing that there is a rat in their midst.
Red Dead Redemption 2 dangles a few red herrings, or low hanging fruit in front of you at first. John, and Abigail’s mysterious arrest and disappearance in Bank of Saint Denis robbery might lead some players into thinking either one of them, or both, were responsible.
Molly O’Shea straight up admits to betraying the gang later on in the story, but it turns out that her rant was just a very ill-advised cry for attention. She actually didn’t rat on anyone.
No, it was someone a little less expected, but it totally makes sense when you consider their character throughout the entire game.
When Arthur and Sadie attack the Pinkertons head-on at Van Horn to rescue Abigail towards the end of the game, Agent Milton mockingly spills the beans on who the true rat actually was.
Micah, is the one who betrayed Dutch and his gang. He took cash in exchange for providing information to the Pinkertons right after he returned from Guarma.
Arthur, later on, tries to explain this to Dutch in a last ditch appeal to him. Dutch either doesn’t believe him, or just doesn’t care because he knows that he has no one left other than Micah anyway. In a way, you could say that Dutch’s actions throughout the game, and especially at the end, also counts as betraying the gang.
That does it for who betrayed the gang in Red Dead Redemption 2. Micah really is a son of a you know what.
