Pokemon Quest has players exploring a vast island teeming with wild ‘mons and resources. When you start the game, you’ll be prompted to pick your very first Poke pal. There are five pocket monsters to choose from, each with their own types and abilities. You can choose from Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Pikachu, and Eevee as your starter Pokemon in the game.

When it comes down to which ‘mon you should choose, it generally boils down to personal preference. During the start of the game, you’ll be facing against a slew of Normal-type monsters with no particular elemental strength or weakness. You can basically blitz through the tutorial without putting in too much effort, and by the time you come across monsters with different types, you’ll have a few more members on your team.

Simply put, there’s no right or wrong choice when picking your starter Pokemon. When it comes down to strengths and weaknesses, however, Fire-types are generally balanced when compared to the other types. They’re effective against Bug, Steel, Grass, and Ice while susceptible to Rock, Fire, Water, and Dragon.
