Pokemon GO: Where to Find Water Type Pokemon

Water Pokemon are probably the easiest to find in Pokemon GO, though you’d be surprised that they are not just bound to appearing around bodies of water. Next to Grass types, Water Pokemon are by far the most common, since finding a large water source isn’t exactly the most difficult task, and especially since we seem to lack massive volcanic areas to search for Fire Pokemon.

If you’re looking to expand your roster of Water type Pokemon, the easiest way is to go towards the nearest body of water and roam around there. Normally you will run into the common water Pokemon such as Goldeen, Poliwag, and Staryu. On rare occasion, you might get lucky and find a Squirtle or Psyduck, but this is not a guarantee. However, things can get trickier if you’re nowhere near a large lake, stream, or the ocean.

Thankfully, Water Pokemon can be found in other areas, such as cities and suburban environments. Pokemon GO does a wonderful job making sure no one area is too geographically left out of finding certain types, though the frequency of their appearances are adjusted. One can easily stumble upon rarer versions of Water Pokemon in large urban areas, as many of our trainers have reported seeing Seakings and Golducks roaming these parts.

However, the last resort for finding this type is just by using a lure and waiting. It’s fully possible to draw in a watery Pokemon via the lure, but this should be a final choice since it’s the most inconsistent. Just make sure to look up from your phone once and awhile, the last thing you want to do is actually fall into said river looking for Pokemon.
