Outer Worlds, the new RPG from Obsidian, is finally here. As you take off into space and explore the planets, you’ll be meeting loads of characters and diving into complex quests. So that you’re not losing your progress, here’s everything you need to know about how to save your game in The Outer Worlds.
Saving Your Game in Outer Worlds
Thankfully, Obsidian’s game saves pretty regularly. As you play, doing things like completing parts of quests or using perk points, the game will autosave, which you’ll be able to see in the bottom right corner of the screen, where a little ship icon with the word ‘saving’ below it will appear for a few seconds.
However, you can also save the game manually so that you can be safe in the knowledge that your progress is safe. After all, you don’t want to take on a group of marauders, quit the game, and then find out that you have to do it all over again next time you start playing.
To manually do so in The Outer Wilds, pause the game by pressing Options if you’re on PS4 or Menu if you’re on Xbox One, and then choose the Save Game option.
It will then let you choose a file, giving you the chance to overwrite old ones if you want, and then you’ll return to the game.
Supernova Difficulty
It’s also worth noting that saving is limited if you’re playing on Supernova difficulty, which is the game’s highest and can only be selected when starting from the beginning.
On that difficulty, you will only be able to save from inside your ship and auto saving is limited, with progress only being kept at key points in quests.
The game does save automatically regularly, but you can also do so manually from the pause menu.
