How Long is Metal Gear Survive?
Metal Gear Survive is the first game in the series to be released after series director Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami. The game is a spin-off that follows the story of an unnamed MSF soldier who travels through a wormhole to an alternate dimension to find a cure for the disease that’s turning everyone into zombie-like Wanderers. The game is mostly centered around survival and crafting mechanics, which mean you’ll have to keep an eye on your hunger and thirst levels to keep going. There’s also a single-player campaign with a story to follow.
There are a total of 22 chapters to play through in the campaign. You’ll be given yellow main objective markers to go to on your iDroid map, and these objectives will require you to do a variety of things, such as rescuing NPCs, bringing key items back to base, investigating abandoned areas, or fighting a boss. In our first playthrough, we took around 25 hours to clear the main story without indulging in a lot of the optional side quests available. If you take your time to pursue the optional objectives, you’ll probably be looking at around 30 hours of playtime.
However, Metal Gear Survive also has a base-building component where you can fortify your base camp by scavenging for resources and building new facilities. There are also a few post-game activities to do after beating the campaign. When you take the multiplayer co-op mode into consideration, there’s a lot more to do than just beating the main story. So if you plan on seeing everything the game has to offer, you can easily sink about 40 to 50 hours into the game, and even more if you get serious with the co-op mode.
