Regardless of how good you are at the game, cover is going to be vital to your survival throughout Mass Effect. As such, it is important to know the differences between how to do this in each game. Here is everything you need to know about how to get into cover in Mass Effect.
How to Get Into Cover in Mass Effect
While getting into cover is pretty straightforward, there are some variances to it throughout each game that are important to note. Below, we’ve broken down those vital differences by game.
Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 1 has the most unique cover system in the series, as it simply has players move their Shepard up to a surface while in combat mode. They will automatically move up against it if the spot you’ve got to can be used to protect you from incoming fire.
This can be a little finicky, as there are some places that won’t let Shepard take cover. As long as you stick to most walls, half-walls, and flat protruding surfaces you should be fine. You can also enter areas that are smaller by crouching.
Mass Effect 2 & Mass Effect 3
Thanks to its more action-focused gameplay, Mass Effect 2 implemented a cover system that is very similar to the Gears of War series. All players have to do to slam into cover is press A on Xbox and X on PlayStation.
Once in cover, Shepard can also bounce to other spaces of cover by moving over to the edge of their current spot and looking where they want to go. To move, simply hold down or tap A on Xbox and X on PlayStation when the spot you want to go to has a waypoint active and Shepard will start running.
