The second version of Destiny’s Iron Banner is live today. While the original disappointed many by not exactly living up to the bill as far as gear playing a difference, Bungie is claiming that this time around things will be different. Â
Here at Twinfinite, we want you to be as successful as possible in this second iteration of the Iron Banner. We’ve written two PvP guides that should help you on your quest towards obtaining all the rewards and emerging victorious. One is a general PvP guide on simple tips every Crucible player needs to be aware of. The other is an Iron Banner guide written when Lord Saladin’s first made his visit to the Crucible.Â
Now that you’ve read those other two guides, without further ado let’s run down of everything that’s different this time around and how it will effect you.
The Rewards Don’t Suck
The rewards from the first Iron Banner kind of sucked. With many players nearly capped out with raid gear, releasing lower end gear was kind of pointless. This time around though, you can receive gauntlets and boots that are equal in light to raid gear and exotics. Pretty sweet.
Even sweeter is that you can actually re-roll your weapons that you receive from Lord Saladin for a cost (motes of lights). Don’t like what perks your new gun has? Take a chance and have it re-rolled. Just don’t upgrade it until you know you like it as re-rolling will erase all of your upgrades.
Gear Actually Matters Now
Unlike the last time Bungie held this event, you’ll need your best weapon and armor to survive this time around. According to Bungie, players within three levels of eachother will be competitive. Meaning if you’re level 26 and under you might want to be careful just incase you get matched up with level 30 players. Equip your hardest hitting weapons and upgrade your armor so that your light and defense is as high as possible.
Losers Get Something This Time
Previously, if you lost you did not receive Iron Banner reputation. This is still technically the case, however, if you complete a game and lose, you’ll receive medallions that you can cash in for when you do finally win (up to five). Meaning don’t waste time quitting games even if it seems hopeless. Finish it out, get the medallion, and change your lobby if you’re really feeling pessimistic about your chances, but make sure to play games until the end!
Don’t Be Shy With Bounties
In case you missed the memo from the other day, Guardians can now hold 10 bounty spots! Sounds great, especially considering there are now 5 levels of Iron Banner reputation instead of three. Your reputation from last time does carry over, however, this is a gift on Bungie’s part. Next time Iron Banner rolls around, your reputation will be reset.
Take advantage of this opportunity and get all of these rewards while you can. Use all of that extra bounty space to fill up on Iron Banner bounties even if you don’t think you’ll be able to do them (you never know). If you’re serious about getting these rewards, use the head start you have on reputation (if applicable) from last time and get to rank 5.
Another reminder from last time that is unchanged: Make sure you equip an Iron Banner shader, emblem, and class item if you have them, as they will increase the amount of reputation you get.
Go for victories, always be loaded up on bounties, and MAKE SURE you take off your faction class item or else you won’t get Iron Banner reputation until you do. Good luck Guardians!
