Condemned: Criminal Origins
While the Condemned series never really picked up as much popularity, they’re still great examples of creepy horror games. Criminal Origins focuses more on puzzle-solving, as players take control of an investigator named Ethan Thomas who’s on the search for a mysterious Serial Killer X. At the same time, he also has to deal with the rising lunacy of the public in Metro City.
Condemned: Criminal Origins shares the first-person scares found in Resident Evil 7, although it leans more into combat than survival. Guns are overpowered but scarce, urging players to use fists and other melee weapons to take down opponents instead.
What makes Criminal Origins so great is its dynamic enemy AI. Your foes will literally jump out at you when you least expect it, and they will hide when they’re cornered. These enemies will jump out of concealed areas and attack you relentlessly, even going so far as to pulling off feints to let your guard down.
Resident Evil 7 could have actually learned a thing or two about Condemned’s AI, though there’s no denying that both games are utterly terrifying.
