When Fortnite Save the World Will be Free
Update: Epic Games has now announced that Save the World will no longer be going free-to-play in 2018. In a State of Development update, Epic announced it was pushing its free-to-play release out of this year, but did not provide a new launch window. We’ll be sure to update you once again when there’s more news to share.
While Fortnite Battle Royale has been stealing the hearts of many players around the world, it wasn’t the first element of Fortnite to actually be released. Its PvE mode, Save the World, tasks players with working together, building giant forts, and playing through a variety of quests in order to, you guessed it, save the world. Currently, this PvE mode is in early access, and players can gain access to it by paying for a Founder’s Pack. Save the World has been out for nearly a year in early access, however, and that’s got some people wondering when the game mode will go free-to-play.
Currently, Save the World doesn’t have a set release date. According to the official Fortnite FAQ over on Epic Games’ site, it’s still just slated to go free-to-play “at some point in 2018.”
Chances are, we’re not going to see it any time before E3. In fact, considering the PvE mode released in June last year, E3 may even be where we get the official release date of when Save the World will be free. If we were going to hazard a guess as to when you’ll hopefully be able to dive into the PvE game mode in Fortnite, we’d say sometime in the second half of this year. As soon as we find out anything more for certain, however, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know.
