Understand the Input System
Button mashing may have saved you in Marvel vs. Capcom but it won’t do you much justice here. Luckily, input precision isn’t at the forefront of Injustice’s fighting system. Where timing is essential to landing any combo in other fighters, Injustice 2 goes down the inputted commands like a list and will dish out whatever you put in. As long as you can put in the right commands (whether it’s a second or two behind) it’s going to come out successfully.

Mix Combos & Special Moves
At this point, it’s time to make sure you have a suite of special moves to mix with your combos. If you’re having trouble remembering some of the combos, tag some from the moves list so the commands are on screen while you fight. Mixing between basic combos and your special moves is essential to consistently gaining some Super meter to throw down the good stuff. You don’t want your #1 way of gaining meter to be getting pummeled or spamming a projectile attack. Don’t be that person (I’m looking at you Deadshot).
Also, don’t underestimate the back-strong or forward-strong attack (A on Xbox One, X on PS4). While they do leave you slightly vulnerable if blocked, it’s the perfect move to start a juggle and dish out some unstoppable damage. Juggling is the best way to ensure every one of your attacks will land. Without being able to block, you leave your opponent having to meter burn escape, or suffer and witness their heroic bod flop its way to destruction. Before you know it, you’ll have Shazam laughing in his grave watching Black Adam be juggled all the way to his doom.
Meter Burn Strong Attacks
It’s hard to justify losing some of your precious meter but when you’re backed into a corner or know that a hard hitting combo is coming your way, meter burning a strong attack is going to drastically help you. If done successfully (by holding the right trigger and back+strong or forward+strong), you’re going to look at completely disrupting your opponent and opening up a perfect chance to utilize a juggle combo.
This also creates the perfect chance to launch someone through the many stage transitions. If you have them backed into a corner and feel a wakeup attack coming, hit that back+strong and gaze upon the glorious cinematic carnage.
Roll Escapes
A new mechanic to Injustice 2 is the addition of Roll escapes. By dashing forward twice and meter burning, you can use one bar of your meter and somersault over a significant distance. Not only can you go through your opponents, but it’s also perfect to stop that Deadshot or any other projectile based character that’s been firing shots from the other side of the screen for the past two minutes. The only way it can be countered is with a throw but personally, you’re moving so fast I don’t expect anyone would see it coming.
Roll escape forward, get the jump on that projectile fiend, and punish with a combo that makes them think twice about their current fighting strategy.
Use the Clash System
By now I’m sure you’ve spurred on a clash that you didn’t quite intend to. All of a sudden, both combatants charge towards each other, you click a random button, and you notice that your entire super meter is gone. While the clash system wasn’t fully understood in its predecessor Injustice: Gods Among Us, now is the perfect time to realize that you can actually score some health back.
That’s right. If you’re into your second health bar and think you can use a boost, hold that meter burn and mid pummeling press forward. This will initiate the clash and if you’re willing to wager more of that precious meter than your foe, you’re looking at getting some health back. Fail, and you’re gonna take a destructive hit worse than Barry Allen pummeling you in the prehistoric age.
Remember, you don’t need to be going for the health boost to justify clashing. Sometimes bluffing and having them waste all their super meter is all that’s needed to seal the deal in a fight.
