As you start up your first playthrough of Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, you may notice that there is no tutorial. The game doesn’t really explain its mechanics which makes learning tricky. You might wonder if there is a weapon triangle in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light.
If you’ve played most newer Fire Emblem games than you might be aware that most games have the weapon triangle: a rock, paper, scissors clone that this game uses.
But instead of rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, and paper beats rock, in Fire Emblem it goes swords beats axes, axes beat lances, and lances beat swords.
Is There a Weapon Triangle in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light?
No, the first game in this franchise does not utilize the weapon triangle. The weapon triangle gives one weapon a boost in hit percentage over another weapon. So swords have +20 hit against axes, but -20 hit against lances.
But this Fire Emblem game does start the trend in the franchise of swords being the most accurate but the weakest, lances being stronger but less accurate than swords, and axes being the strongest but least accurate.
While axes are definitely seen as the best weapon type, not many characters use them besides fighters and pirates. But besides all this, again, no, this game does not use the weapon triangle.
The weapon triangle is a staple of the Fire Emblem franchise but it came into being later in the franchise, and was utilized in most Fire Emblem games that were released in the west.
