What Adagium Means in Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn

After three years, Final Fantasy XV’s long journey finally comes to an end with Episode Ardyn. For the first time, players can take direct control of Ardyn Izunia, the main villain of the game, as he wreaks havoc on Insomnia and the soldiers of Lucis. With the story centering around Ardyn, there’s a few plot points and terms that might be confusing if you haven’t brushed up on your FFXV lore. Here’s what Adagium means in Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn.

The beginning of Episode Ardyn chronicles how the character became the Savior of the People, before falling to darkness after being betrayed by his brother, Somnus. One thing you’ll notice is the term Adagium being thrown around a lot, in reference to Ardyn.

If you’re unclear what this term means, it’s something that refers specifically to Ardyn, and no one else. The code name was actually created by the Lucian royal family to hide the existence of Arydn, and his connection to the line of Lucis.

By giving him the name Adagium, they resigned Ardyn to be forgotten by history, labeled as nothing more than a mythical monster. This is further reinforced by the fact that no one believes Ardyn is real at the start of Episode Ardyn, as Adagium has just become a story.

Interestingly, the word Adagium is Latin for proverb.

Adagium is really only a word you see brought up in the DLC, as it’s not something you’ll hear or need to know when playing through the bulk of Final Fantasy XV.

That’s everything you need to know about what Adagium means in Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn. For even more on Final Fantasy XV, and the series, make sure to search Twinfinite. While you’re at it, you can check out our ranking of all four of FFXV’s DLC episodes, to see where Episode Ardyn lands.
