Waiting and Passing Time in Fallout 76
With Fallout 76, the series has evolved from its conventional open-world single-player RPG design to an MMORPG. As you’d expect, that means plenty of changes to gameplay mechanics. But can you wait and pass time in Fallout 76? Here’s what you need to know.
Passing time, the option to wait has been a longstanding mechanic in the past three Fallout games. It was, of course, a system used to advance the in-game time clock, which was useful for several reasons.
Often, shops would only open at certain times, NPCs could be hurried along to locations, or you may have just wanted to operate at a different time of day. These aren’t activities you’ll be doing Fallout 76, though.
Indeed, as a result of the fact that Fallout 76 is a multiplayer game on a live server with other players, time plays out at its own pace. You can’t simply advance time as it would affect everyone else on the server.
Heck, even VATS doesn’t work the same because of the “always online” aspect of the game.
There are, however, some options to rest and pass time — namely, sleeping and playing an instrument.
Sleeping in a bed will slowly heal your health, and if you sleep for long enough, the action will grant you the Well-Rested perk. This grants a 5% XP boost for a limited time. This is obviously a great way to recover health without having to use an item. Just be sure to craft a bed at your CAMP so you’ll always know where to find one for sure.
You can also play an instrument if you find one lying around the world, and by doing this for long enough you’ll get the Well-Tuned perk. This perk grants a 25% boost to AP regeneration for an hour, which can prove super handy for tough combat encounters.
That’s all you need to know about whether you can wait and pass time in Fallout 76. For more useful guides and information on the game, be sure to check out our wiki page.
