If you’ve been playing the recent releases of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, the long-awaited Generation IV remakes, you may have noticed that certain Pokemon don’t evolve by leveling up the way most do. One of these Pokemon is Rhyperior. Here is everything you need to know about how to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.
How to Evolve Rhydon Into Rhyperior
First of all, if you haven’t already evolved your Rhyhorn into Rhydon, you’ll need to do that. Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon starting at level 42.
In order to evolve your Rhydon into Rhyperior, there are two important steps.
First, your Rhydon must be holding an item called a Protector. You can find this item on Route 228 in a pit to the right of a trainer.
Next, the Rhydon must be traded. If it is holding the Protector item, it will evolve into Rhyperior upon a successful trade.
Therefore, you will either need a second game or another person to trade with. We recommend finding a trustworthy friend who you can trade your Rhydon to who will agree to trade it back to you.
If you really don’t have anyone to trade with, many users have been using the online code 0112-0112 to swap Rhydons holding Protectors (since Rhydon is #112 in the National Pokedex). If you decide to try your luck with this trading method, check to make sure the Rhydon you are getting in return is in fact holding a Protector so that it will evolve.
If you did everything correctly, a traded Rhydon will evolve into Rhyperior, which is a dual type Ground and Rock Pokemon.
Where to Catch Rhydon
Rhydon and Rhyperior cannot be found in the wild in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but its first evolution, Rhyhorn, can.
Here are the places you can catch a Rhyhorn in the game:
- Grand Underground
- Route 227
- Route 228
- Stark Mountain
As a reminder, Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon starting at level 42, and Rhydon evolves into Rhyperior when traded while holding a Protector.
