Pay Attention to Race Perks
Dragon Ball Fusion Tips
There are five different races that you can choose from when creating your character in Dragon Ball Fusions. Each one has a specific perk that affects what stats they begin the game with. Let’s say you’re looking for a more balanced start so that you can get a hang of the different mechanics the game uses, then you’d want an Earthling as they have balanced offense and defense, but don’t necessarily excel in any one area.
If you are looking for a boost in any area, be it Ki Blasts or melee attacks, you have options for those as well. Offworlders (Majins and Kais) have very strong Ki Blasts and are very fast, while Aliens excel at melee. Since positioning and the like is important in the game, pick whichever you’re more comfortable with.Â
Work the Type Triangle
Dragon Ball Fusion Tips
Aside from races, each character in the game falls under one of three different types: Power, Speed, and Technique. While these don’t necessarily bar you from learning certain abilities (it’s your level that does that), they do decide who you’re strong against and who’s strong against you. The breakdown is as follows:
- Power –Â Strong against Technique. Weak against Speed.
- Speed –Â Strong against Power. Weak against Technique.
- Technique –Â Strong against Speed. Weak against Power.
Remember these when choosing which character to attack. It’s also displayed in the upper right hand corner of the bottom screen to help you. You should build a team that has at least one of each, then you can fill the other two spots with whatever you prefer. You will very rarely come across a team comprised entirely of one type, so you shouldn’t use only one type either.
Special Moves Can Increase Your Stats
Dragon Ball Fusion Tips
If you manage to get a KO by Ring Out you will earn Special Moves as a reward. You get a couple for each individual knocked out of the ring and you will see a lot of repeats. Do not ignore the repeats. Each skill can come in multiple rankings and the higher the rank, the more stat bonuses a character gets simply for having that move equipped. You can equip more than one of the same Special Move in Dragon Ball Fusions on a single character (though this does limit your options).
Early on, many of the recruits you find will have only one or two of these powerful abilities, so don’t be afraid to double up to fill up the gaps and boost their abilities. The same goes for your own created character. If you find there is a move you never use but have the opportunity to learn a skill with great stat boosts, use it until you can learn something you will use.
Position is Everything
Dragon Ball Fusion Tips
Dragon Ball Fusions is a turn-based RPG with a bit of positional strategy thrown in for good measure. When you use a melee attack, your character will move beside your target and stay there until their next turn or when you’re moved by an attack. Ki Blasts allow you to move to wherever you want before firing, giving you free reign with positioning. Some Special Moves are triggered from right where you stand (Kamehameha for example). These are all important to note because where you place yourself on the field can either put you in a great spot or leave you in a position where you’re going to get wrecked.
Try to avoid positioning yourself near an edge, too close to an ally, or between two enemies. This will lead to you being caught in crazy combos or, even worse, knocked out of the ring which will set you back quite a bit. When choosing an attack, don’t only focus on damage, focus on where it will leave you and your enemies as well.Â
Recruit Someone in Every Battle
Dragon Ball Fusion Tips
After you make it to the third major area, you will gain the ability to recruit allies in Dragon Ball Fusions. You can recruit any enemy that has a star by their image on the bottom screen of your 3DS. You probably won’t even use 90% of the fighters you recruit in battle, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have a purpose.
Energy is the currency used in Dragon Ball Fusions and it’s also required to unlock barriers to progress through the game. The amount you can carry of each type (there are five) is directly related to the number of recruits you have as well as their races. The energy types and the races that increase your carry capacity for them are:
- Red – Saiyans
- Blue – Earthlings
- Purple – Outsiders
- Yellow – Aliens
- Green – Namekians
Just keep on recruiting each type as you come across them.
Complete The Training Tasks
If you pause Dragon Ball Fusions, you’ll notice an option called “Training List.” This is not a set of missions you select, however. It’s actually a list of objectives that you can complete as you play the game. Each one will reward you with a stat boost that will stay forever allowing you to really boost your created character’s abilities. The best part is that most of them aren’t even difficult, you’ll earn them naturally as you play through the game and win battles.
To help you speed the process up, battle every single NPC you come across. Not only will you earn EXP, you’ll also make progress in your Training as well, which is definitely worth your while. Also, don’t fast travel early on. Three of the objectives revolve around flying so get those out of the way first. Other than that, just make sure to use your abilities and try to hit multiple enemies at once with each attack. In time you’ll rack up completions and watch your stats jump.Â
Save Zenkai Attacks and Ultra Fusions For Wins
If you’re not trying to recruit, don’t waste your big guns. Zenkai Attacks allow you to gather Ki really fast and finish with one of your Special Skills. If you can fill your meter, you can even up the amount of damage you do by a substantial amount. It’s wise to save these for when you have your opponents low enough as it takes a long time to fill the meter.
Ultra Fusions are the same. They take a long time to charge and while they do provide a ton more damage than Zenkai Attacks, they leave you open when all is said and done. So if you don’t win immediately, you’re left vulnerable to a full assault from every surviving member of the enemy team. Wait until everyone is at least at half health and make sure to catch everyone in the area of effect before triggering the fusion.
