Devil May Cry 5: How to Switch Devil Breakers (Nero)

How to Switch Devil Breakers in Devil May Cry 5 (Nero)

This Devil May Cry 5 guide will run you through everything you need to know regarding how to switch Devil Breakers when you’re playing as Nero.

Devil May Cry makes a big return to form with the fifth mainline entry in the series. The slick swordplay, awesome level design, and brilliant graphics reminds us of everything that’s made the original game so great way back on its PS2 debut.

The weapons are suitably badass, too, like the Devil Breaker artificial arms that allow Nero to use special abilities.

In Devil May Cry 5, Nero can equip multiple devil breakers. His carrying capacity can be increased to nine different Breaker options.

However, you aren’t able to switch between them at will and you’ll always use the first one in your deck. The only way to switch is by destroying the devil breaker you’re using.

If you really want to do this, pressing L1 (PS4) or LB (Xbox One) will instantly explode the one you’re using and equip the next Devil Breaker in your inventory.

It’s not a total waste, as the explosion will damage surrounding enemies. But you’ll want to be careful about which you choose to sacrifice and how important it is to use the other Breakers in your inventory at that time.

In our experience, it’s better to try and use the breaker in combat until it expires rather than needlessly destroying it trying to switch to a different one.

Here’s every Breaker in the game:

  • Overture
  • Gerbera
  • Punch Line
  • Buster Arm
  • Ragtime
  • Tomboy
  • Helter Skelter
  • Rawhide

There are four additional Devil Breakers available in the Deluxe version of the game, which includes:

  • Sweet Surrender
  • Mega Buster
  • Pasta Breaker
  • Gerbera GP-01

That’s everything you should need to know about how to switch Devil Breakers for Nero in Devil May Cry 5. For more useful information, guides, and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our wiki page. We’ll have plenty of coverage on the game over the coming weeks.
