Paper Fortunes – Destiny: The Dawning

Recommended Videos

The Dawning brought a load of holiday items and features to Destiny, including new sparrows, some exotics, and the Sparrow Racing League. Today, though, Bungie has added something more mysterious to the holiday fun — Paper Fortunes.

How to Get Paper Fortunes

You can get a Paper Fortune in The Tower. Head over to where The Dawning gift boxes usually are (in front of the gates that used to lead to the Iron Banner) and you’ll find a box called  a “Box of Fortunes.” Open it up, and you’ll get a Paper Fortune and unlock the Dawning Fortunes Grimoire card.

What Paper Fortunes Do

The purpose of Paper Fortunes is still unclear. They’ve been anticipated since update 2.5.0 added a new Destiny Grimoire card called Dawning Fortunes. It tells of a New Year tradition involving boxes of fortunes, which Guardians open in hopes of finding good luck for the coming year.

“Fortune telling at the start of a new year is one of many traditions refugees brought to the Last City. Each Dawning, Guardians open mysterious boxes containing paper fortunes, hoping for luck and good news”

These Paper Fortunes have various messages scrawled on them. Some are generic, like “You will destroy to rebuild,” while others reference in-game NPCs, like “Master Rahool will surprise you, and then he will disappoint you.”

Some speculate these fortunes will eventually be mission objectives or unlock a special item or bonus. We’ll keep you updated when we learn more on the Paper Fortune mystery.
