First Get to 265

How to Get to 300 Light Fast in Destiny 2

You’ve probably been seeing this number a lot lately while playing Destiny 2.  Players are currently talking about it, and if you’re checking out guides on how to level up, chances are that a lot of your engrams are dropping at or around 265. That’s because 265 is the Light wall in your progression that makes getting to 300 a lot harder.

What do I mean by Light wall? Once you hit this number, your steady increases slow down drastically. Only specific activities offer rewards that go above and beyond. However, those activities still drop rewards according to your current Power Level. So while they may be higher than that 243 you’re at, they won’t necessarily be higher than 265. To give yourself a leg up on RNG, get to 265 simply by playing through the story, leveling up vendors, and farming public events.

Weekly Milestones – Flashpoint, Call to Arms, Nightfall

After you reach 265, you can start working to reach 300 in earnest. As we’ve mentioned already, engrams stop increasing in light by this point, but there is a way to get rewards that drop much higher. Destiny 2 has weekly Milestones that offer up a reward called Powerful Gear. These are packages that contain a couple of pieces of legendary gear (sometimes you’ll get an exotic if you’re lucky) that all drop at a much higher Power level. The pieces themselves are random, so you may not get exactly what you want, but you can use them to infuse into pieces of gear that you do actually like. The various weekly Milestones are:

Nightfall – Veterans are well aware of this nasty little challenge, though things have changed to dial the tension up. The weekly Nightfall Strike is a modified version of one of the game’s standard strikes, with a time limit added on for good measure. Fail to kill the boss before the time expires and you have to start all over again.

Call to Arms – A relatively easy Crucible Milestone. You simply have to join up with a Fireteam and complete some PvP matches. You don’t have to win, but winning helps you finish this challenge more quickly.

Flashpoint – Each week, a specific world in Destiny 2 will be chosen for you to explore. You must complete Public Events to bring this Milestone to 100%. Getting Heroic completions helps to make this go quicker.

Clan – Team up with some members of your clan and complete some activities.

Exotic Farming

The fun thing about exotic weapons and armor in Destiny 2, outside of the fact that they tend to look cooler than most things in the game and have extraordinary perks, is that they don’t necessarily adhere to any caps on engram decryption. Your exotics can always drop higher than your current Power level in Destiny 2 and that makes them invaluable in boosting your Power.

Of course, exotics are especially rare compared to other drops in the game, but you can farm for them if you have the time. First, grab a Fireteam Medallion or two (you get one for beating the story and can buy more from Eververse for 50 Silver Dust a piece), then grab a Fireteam of players you trust (things go faster if you’re all on the same page). Now you have an option, either farm Vanguard Strike Playlist, Nightfall, or Heroic Public Events.

Heroic Public Events have had the quickest exotic turnaround for me thus far, but Strikes do also grant Tactician Tokens as well which can really help with increasing your Light to 300 (we’ll get to that in a second). I personally prefer running the public events when short on time. But if you have a day to kill, give Strikes some attention.

Ikora Rey and Zavalla

Destiny 2

While there are quite a few vendors in Destiny 2, and all of them have a chance of giving you an exotic when you level them up, Zavalla and Ikora Rey tend to give at least one legendary that’s higher than what you already have, something I’ve yet to see the other vendors do. Leveling them up requires specific Tokens, though.

For Zavalla, you want Vanguard Tactician Tokens which are tied to all Strikes. For Ikora Rey, you’ll need to earn Vanguard Research Tokens which are obtained by completing Meditations (replaying story missions) and from random Milestones you see from time to time when you log in. Both Ikora and Zavalla usually give two pieces of gear, one of which has a legendary mod that pushes an item five points above the current cap. You can equip those pieces or use them for infusion in order to steadily raise your Power.

Finally, Mods

The last way to boost drops to higher Light levels in Destiny 2 is to make ample use of mods. No, we’re not talking about altering files in the game, that’s cheating. We mean the weapon and armor mods that you can obtain from decrypting engrams with any of the Vendors, including Eververse. While blue ones simply add various perks and buffs to your gear, legendary ones will increase the Power Level of a piece of gear.

Also, when you reach 280, you’ll be able to combine blue mods to create legendary ones, as well as craft random legendary mods. There are a couple of ways you can utilize these to help your climb to 300. You can add them to gear you like using as the first option. Or, which has helped me a lot, you can place purple mods you don’t really care for on new gear you’ve obtained to boost them higher than what you have, then infuse. Either way, you’re going to get a nice dose of new power to use out in the wild.

Following these steps, you’ll find yourself approaching 300 before you know it. For more on Destiny 2, be sure to check out our wiki.
