Destiny 2’s latest expansion, Warmind, brings a whole host of new content to the sci-fi, shared world shooter. Players will have new story missions to blast through, Strikes to grind, and fresh Raid content to put themselves to the test. Some changes and new features have been introduced to the game’s arsenal of weapons and armor, too, one of those being Masterwork Cores. Here’s how to get Masterwork Cores and what it is they do in Destiny 2 Warmind.

What Masterwork Cores Do in Destiny 2 Warmind

Masterwork Cores are kind of like Exotic Shards in Destiny 2. As part of the Warmind expansion, Masterwork weapons and armor have been introduced, which are essentially more powerful versions of existing legendary weapons. As such, Masterwork Cores are your ‘crafting ingredient’ so to speak with regards to this new feature. They’ll allow you to re-roll any Masterwork gear you’ve got in the hope you get a better perk, or can be used to turn your favorite legendary gear into their Masterwork variants.

How to Get Masterwork Cores in Destiny 2 Warmind

Getting your hands on Masterwork Cores in Destiny 2 Warmind is actually pretty straightforward. You’ll first need to get some Masterwork gear, which can be acquired in a variety of different ways. But, to summaries, Masterwork gear can be acquired as a random drop after reaching Power level 250 from anywhere you can get Legendary drops. Raid activities and Trials of the Nine also have very high chances of Masterwork drops.

Once you’ve got the Masterwork gear, you’ll simply want to head to your inventory and dismantle it. Of course, this means it’ll be gone from your inventory forever and you won’t be able to use it, so if you like the Masterwork gear you’ve got, don’t do this. If you don’t care for whatever you got, simply hold Square (X on Xbox One) to dismantle your Masterwork gear in order to get those all-important cores.

That’s all you need to know to get Masterwork Cores and what you’ll want them for in Destiny 2 Warmind. For more on the base game and this latest expansion, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
