Developed by Bluepoint Games and published by Sony, the Demon’s Souls remake is finally out for the PS5 and it’s pretty much just as good as you remember it from its original PS3 days. The remake comes with a huge graphical upgrade, a few new features and improvements, but the gameplay remains the same. Here’s how to use melee attacks in Demon’s Souls.
Because this is a medieval fantasy action RPG, pretty much all of your attacks in Demon’s Souls are likely going to be melee attacks. Aside from the magic spells and other ranged weapons like the bows, you’re probably going to use a short ranged melee weapon of some sort for most of your playthrough.
Using Melee Attacks in Demon’s Souls
Once you have a weapon equipped, all you have to do is hit the R1 button for a regular light attack, or the R2 button for a slower but heavier attack.
It’s worth noting that the R2 attacks will consume more stamina than your R1 attacks, but they’re also stronger and more effective for breaking an enemy’s guard and dealing more damage.
Another thing to note is that it’s actually possible to play through most of Demon’s Souls with no weapons equipped either. When you have nothing equipped in your character’s dominant hand, hitting the R1 and R2 buttons will simply allow them to swing with their bare fists and attack enemies that way.
The melee fist damage is actually pretty decent in this game, and can get you through most regular encounters as long as you’re leveling up your character consistently.
You’ll even be able to deal large riposte damage with just your fists after parrying an attack, and while we don’t recommend using just your fists for boss fights as those can take a long while, it’s still a viable option if you’re looking for an addition challenge.
That’s all you need to know about how to use melee attacks in Demon’s Souls. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
