Civilization VI: How to Increase Amenities (Happiness)

Happiness and Amenities – Civilization VI

Recommended Videos

As the leader of an entire populace, you’re going to need to take care of your people in Civilization VI. That’s right, it’s not all about science, culture, and war. You need to make sure your people are happy. If not, this ruins your cities’ growth, production, culture and science outputs, and all around makes your city a bit of a downer.

The difference this time around, in Civilization VI, is that happiness comes from amenities and it’s city specific. Yes, it’s basically been replaced by “Amenities” sections, in fact.  And no longer will this stat be shared across your entire people, rather, each city will need to keep track of their own. Additionally, luxury resources only provide one amenity point (thus one happiness) to the first four cities. Another copy of that resource will be needed to grant the rest of your cities amenities, so keep this in mind when we note the next part of this guide.

So how do you increase your “happiness” now? With amenities! This can be a bit tricky and might even come down to luck, though. Whenever you’re near a luxury resource, immediately send some workers over to work there. These luxury resources contribute to your cities, with each one adding a point to your amount for that city. Additionally to this, certain governments, buildings, Pantheons, and Wonders will grant you more amenities. Making sure to always keep your people’s happiness in mind when cultivating your plan of action is important, so take note of every building and civic that will help you accomplish this with the amenities they provide. If they’re not full of amenities, they’ll stop producing.

To sum up, let’s take a look at the amenity sources:

  • Luxury Resources
  • Wonders
  • Natural Wonders
  • Buildings
  • Entertainment Complexes
  • Policy Cards

Next, let’s take a look at the best buildings, wonders, and more for increasing amenities.

Buildings:

  • Arena (Needs Entertainment Complex district)
  • Tlachtli (Needs Entertainment Complex district)
  • Zoo (Needs Entertainment Complex district)
  • Stadium (Needs Entertainment Complex district)

Wonders:

  • Alhambra – Gives 2 Amenities, 1 Great General point per turn, and an additional Military Policy slot.
  • Colosseum – Gives 1 Amenity and 1 culture per city.
  • Huey Teocalli – Gives 1 Amenity from entertainment for each adjacent Lake tile, 1 food and 1 production for each Lake tile in the entire empire.

Governments:

  • Classical Republic – All cities with a district receive 1 Amenity.

Pantheons:

  • River Goddess – Gives 1 Amenity to cities if they have a Holy Site district adjacent to a River.

Make sure to build all of these in order to ensure your people won’t be unhappy ever again. For more Civilization VI help, be sure to check out our wiki for more guides and tips!
