13 Sentinels Aegis Rim: How to Recover from Brain Overload (BOL)

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

13 Sentinels Aegis Rim is the latest video game release from developing studio Vanillaware, best known for their work on the action RPGs Dragon’s Crown and Odin Sphere. Unlike those two games, however, 13 Sentinels is a real-time strategy game that follows the story of 13 high schoolers fighting back against an alien invasion. Here’s how to recover from Brain Overload (BOL) in 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim.

Recovering from Brain Overload (BOL) in 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim

You have a total of 13 characters at your disposal whenever you go into combat in 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, but you can only have six characters on your strike team while the rest stay in your reserves. While it may be tempting to only use characters that you like or are comfortable with, the game will actually punish you for that.

After every battle, your characters’ BOL meter will start to fill. Once it fills up, they’ll suffer from Brain Overload, rendering them unable to take part in the next battle and they’ll need to rest up before they can go back out into the field.

On the combat prep screen, look for the little meter above each character’s portrait to see how they’re doing, BOL-wise. When a character is suffering from BOL, you can just sit them out for the next battle and wait for them to recover, or press a button to have them recover immediately.

Again, on the combat prep screen, you can press the square button to cure all of your characters from Brain Overload. However, there are a couple of caveats: first, you can only do this once per map. Second, using the recovery function will cause your consecutive battle bonus to get reset.

The consecutive battle bonus lets you rack up more Meta-Chips, and helps you get a better score and makes it easier for you to unlock upgrades. Because of this, it’s recommended that you try to hold off from using the recovery function until you absolutely have to, so that every character gets battle experience, and you get as many Meta-Chips as you possibly can.

That’s all you need to know about how to recover from Brain Overload (BOL) in 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
