Nicki Minaj has made an impact in nearly every form of media. She’s sold multiple gold records, judged American Idol in front of millions of people, and even landed endorsement deals with Pepsi and MAC Cosmetics. Her next project is a mobile game by Glu Mobile, creators of the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game that made over $40 million in 2014.
Minaj will provide her likeness and voice to the game, which will release in 2016. Glu’s CEO and chairman Niccolo de Masi provided a statement that both celebrates the partnership and explains why Glu has been so successful:
“I am thrilled to welcome the undisputed queen of hip-hop, Nicki Minaj, to Glu’s growing list of celebrity partners. Nicki brings to Glu her audience of over 100 million social followers and a new music category. We look forward to combining Nicki’s distinctive style and massive global appeal with Glu’s celebrity social gaming expertise.”
Glu’s collaboration with celebrities effectively handles their marketing, as their partners can tell millions of people about their games with a single tweet.
Glu also released an image with their statement, showing plans to develop mobile games with Jason Statham, Katy Perry, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, and Britney Spears as well.
Glu’s games make a lot of revenue with in-app purchases, and there are plenty of ways to monetize Nicki Minaj’s illustrious career. She has thousands of outfits that can be sold as purchasable skins, with at least 100 hairstyle options if the game is truly accurate.
They could even sell bonus Nicki Minaj songs that play over the game. With the new partnerships they’ve made, Glu could have several titles that are just as big as Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. But only one of those games will have “Super Bass.”
