When Gears of War Ultimate Edition was announced at E3 back in June, people were wondering why it was only the first game being remastered instead of the entire trilogy. Well, wonder no longer folks, because buying Gears Ultimate Edition will also come with the three sequels, newly backwards compatible. This news comes straight from the Xbox Wire:
“All fans who purchase Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, or the Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle, will be able to unlock the entire Gears collection via Xbox One Backward Compatibility.”
If you play Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live between August 25 and December 31, you’ll get access to the other three games in the series–Gears 2, 3, and Judgement. They’ll be fully backwards compatible, complete with migrating your saves, DLC, and achievements. If you play the sequels on the Xbox One, you’ll be able to play with your friends who still own a 360. You’ll also be able to use the Xbox One’s Game DVR, Snap, and screenshot taking feature. That’s pretty freaking sweet.
Gears of War Ultimate Edition hits the Xbox One on August 25. The remastering will come with plenty of things, with the most important being the Gears 4 beta. Excited to play all four games on the Xbox One? What’s your favorite Gears game? Let us know in the comments below.
