Video game movies have had a bad string of luck. With a few exceptions like the first Tomb Raider movie and Super Mario Bros. (debatable if people like it ironically or not), they’ve mostly been pretty bad. That hasn’t stopped some big franchises from making the jump to the silver screen. Ratchet and Clank is getting a movie later this year, Last of Us is in pre-production, and Ubisoft is working with 20th Century Fox to an Assassin’s Creed flick. It was originally scheduled for later this year, then there were rewrites, but now it’ll officially arrive December 21, 2016. Just a week after the Star Wars spin-off film.
The film will star X-Men First Class’s Michael Fassbender. Not many details have been revealed besides his involvement and that it’s being directed by Justin Kurzel, who Fassbender worked with before on Macbeth, due later this year.
