It was recently revealed that 343 Industries will be including microtransactions in Halo 5: Guardians and this has caused a bit of a stir amongst the Halo fans so 343 Industries has revealed some information about them on their blog.
The microtransaction currency in Halo 5: Guardians is called REQ Points and they can also be earned at the end of each match in Arena or Warzone multiplayer. These points can be spent on REQ Packs which will contain a variety of requisitions like weapons, skins, armour, vehicles, assassination animations and more. Players will also earn free REQ Pack when they level up their Spartan Rank, and when they complete Commendations.
For the sake of keeping thing’s balanced players will only be allowed to use the cosmetic requisitions in the Arena mode. This way all players will start with the same weapons and abilities. However, players who want to use their new weapons will be able to do so in the Warzone mode.
Warzone will be a “new massive-scale multiplayer experience” where players will be given a bigger variety in what they can do thanks to their unlocked requisition items. That being said the requisitions in Halo 5: Guardians will be governed and more importantly balanced by each Warzones in-match REQ Level and Energy systems and they “are driven by player and team performance within the mode.”
According to the blog post, the new REQ system ” is designed to generously reward players with a steady stream of content to keep gameplay fresh.” 343 Industries also plan to release new REQ content post launch and the reason why players will be able to use real world money is because it’s a “matter of convenience.” A portion of the proceeds raised by players buying REQ Packs with real world money will be going towards prize pools for the Halo Championship Series.
