Captain Falcon
We’re kind of surprised that Captain Falcon hasn’t already made a surprise appearance in Mario Kart. Sure, he’s not a citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom, but that didn’t stop Link, Animal Crossing’s Isabelle, and the Splatoon folk from crashing the party in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Plus, he’s the mascot for Nintendo’s other racing franchise. It’s a match made in heaven.
Of course, he’d bring his own ride. A kart version of the Blue Falcon sounds perfect for drifting around Rainbow Road. Throw in a kart-friendly version of Big Blue as his home location and we’ve got a perfect addition to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s roster. I mean, we’d take another F-Zero game too… Hear us Nintendo!
Resetti
We feel bad for Resetti. He’s obviously got a pretty tough job in the Animal Crossing world, yelling at people for not saving all day. It almost seems like he has too much built up aggression. Well, Mr. Resetti, how about engaging in some full-blown chaos on a racetrack?
With his own little mine cart to speed around in, he’d be fully equipped to take on the other racers. Heck, maybe even a track that takes us through the underground residence of Resetti himself? It’s a long shot, but it’s about time Nintendo let the guy blow off some steam!
Captain Olimar and the Pikmin
Olimar and the Pikmin may be returning to our screens in the 2D platformer Hey! Pikmin on the 3DS later this year, but that’s just not enough. While it’d be great to get a Pikmin game on the Nintendo Switch, a cameo appearance in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would suffice for now. How would it work? Just hear us out.
Now, these guys are tiny, but they do have their very own rocket ship, the Hocotate. Turn it on its side, attach some wheels to the bottom and cut the top off. Voila! You have a perfectly-sized kart for the troop to use. Plus, you’d be able to see the Pikmin struggling with the different items as Olimar guides the ship to victory. Yes, we have thought too much about this.
Samus Aran
If there’s one thing that Nintendo fans have been seemingly calling out for for years now, it’s a proper 3D Metroid Prime title. While Nintendo has yet to make any announcements regarding a follow up to the popular Prime trilogy, that doesn’t mean she should miss out on a karting opportunity.
Think about it, if she can pilot spaceships, she’s more than qualified to operate a kart. She could even bring a Metroid with her as a weapon that slows down or manipulates the target’s car and a kart version of her Gunship as her wheels. Plus, Rainbow Road is great and all, but we’d love to drift through a darker section of space in our karts. Sounds like the perfect content for a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC pack if you ask us.
Ice Climbers
They’re bringing Double Dash back… unofficially! Sure, the whole tag-team karting thing died out in 2003 with the GameCube title, but that shouldn’t stop from these classic characters from making a cameo appearance in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Give them a giant ice block with two seats or a motorbike with a sidecar and they’d fit right in. After all, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe even lets you hold two items at once. One steers while the other smashes the items behind the kart with their giant mallets. “But all the other characters have to struggle with two items!” I hear your cry. True, but Ice Climbers looks like they’re about to drop the hottest mixtape north of Alaska. They got this.
Fox McCloud
Okay, maybe not the puppet Fox McCloud (though, now that you mention it?). But after the rather dismal Star Fox Zero, it’s the least that can be done to restore the anthropomorphic Fox to his former greatness. He’s more than prepared to take the track on in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, too.
He’s got two different karts dependent on your driving style. Need something light with fast acceleration and solid turning? The Arwing Kart is for you. If you’d prefer a heavier kart sacrificing acceleration and handling for top speed, there’s no other option than the Landmaster.
Plus, don’t say you wouldn’t want to be speeding around the ruins of Corneria while the rest of Star Fox and Star Wolf fight it out in the skies above.
Pikachu
D’awww just look at it. You can’t say no to that face. Plus, even if you hate the yellow mouse, you can take pleasure in blasting the crap out of its Poke-Ball kart with a blue shell. Sounds like a win-win situation to us!
With the resurgence of the Pokemon franchise to cultural phenomenon once again last year, a cameo from the mascot ‘mon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe certainly wouldn’t be a bad move. Throw in a track that sees us speeding across Kanto or Johto as trainers battle at the side of the road and we’ll just throw money at you, Nintendo. Seriously, just do it.
